Inside
Walk across the lawn and you step into the warm, welcoming bar with a clock saying "oneish, twoish ....", Classic FM is playing gently in the background and you start to relax. The world of deadlines and endless rushing seem light years away.
You have arrived at Fingals and can sink into huge, squashy sofas in the sitting-room in front of the large inglenook fireplace or wander through into the library which is overflowing with books. Oak beams, wood panelling, antique carpets, log fires - the new and the old blend together to create a feeling of warmth and well-being. "Fingals is for friends, it is a place for meeting kindred spirits and enjoying life - we've aimed for a relaxed, informal atmosphere and encourage guests to think of Fingals as their country home."
Fingals is essentially an English home from home, full of cordial, cosy, reliable enchantment where the spirit of the house party prevails. Delicious dinners are served in the original wood panelled dining-room on one long table where guests can meet interesting people and mingle late into the early hours and put the world to rights (there is a smaller panelled dining-room for more intimate and 'en famille' dinners). Tea can be taken in the garden or in the Orangery with fresh baked cakes. Here in the South Hams we are surrounded by lush fertile fields with the river Dart and the sea close by. These provide us with all the organic fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, cheese, wine and ice creams! Our meals are wholesome, unfussy and full of flavour.
Breakfast is a very relaxed affair with fresh squeezed orange juice, freshly baked croissants, organic muesli and a traditional English breakfast from 9am onwards in the dining-rooms and sometimes on the library terrace if the sun is shining outside >>
